In Mendix 10.10, we introduced the bidirectional Jira-Studio Pro Integration. This means that now the items you changed in Jira will be sent to Studio Pro, and the items you changed in Studio Pro will be sent to Jira.
Separate no longer
Before the Jira-Studio Pro integration, Jira and Studio Pro were separate systems with no connection at all. As an example, if you adjusted a user story in Jira, it would not be visible or approachable in Studio Pro in any way.
We developed the Jira-Studio Pro Integration because many of our customers use Jira to manage user stories. We wanted to save these customers the time they’re spending going back and forth between Jira and Studio Pro.
A big boost to accuracy and efficiency
With the Jira-Studio Pro Integration, when you connect your app to Jira, you have the option to associate your commits in Studio Pro to one or more stories created in Jira.
While the status of a Jira item doesn’t change automatically when added to a commit in Studio Pro, you now can take control and update the status manually via the dropdown in the Stories pane. This approach ensures accuracy and intentionality in managing your tasks.
Also, when making a commit, you can select the stories impacted by your changes, seamlessly integrating Jira issues into your commit overview. This enhances visibility and coherence across your project, fostering a more streamlined and efficient workflow.
In addition, the Jira-Studio Pro Integration will let you link to your Jira board in Mendix Portal navigation and turn a feedback item into a story in Jira.
Epics vs. Jira
We have our own agile tool , Epics, in our Mendix portal. If you don’t use Jira, you can make use of Epics. If you’re unsure about whether to use Epics or Jira, here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons for each approach.
Epics
- Fully integrated into the Mendix ecosystem
- Easier to get started with
- Simpler for business users
- Free to use with a Mendix license
Jira
- Often used at IT Departments
- Allows for much more customization (which could be a blessing or a curse, depending on your needs)
- Helps in tracking tasks, managing sprints, and ensuring that the project stays on track outside the Mendix ecosystem.
- Almost fully integrated into the Mendix ecosystem
- Requires a separate license, incurring costs in both money and time management.
