Ideate

All successful Agile software development projects begin with an ideation stage.

The Agile product owner (PO) works closely with stakeholders, the business team, developers, and future app users. Guided by the greater team, the PO pieces together a project vision by:

  1. Problem Identification: Clearly define the problem or opportunity that the ideation process aims to address.
  2. Research and Exploration: Conduct research to gain insights into user needs, existing solutions, and emerging technologies.
  3. Idea Generation: Encourage brainstorming sessions to generate a wide variety of ideas, leveraging techniques like mind mapping, analogies, and association.
  4. Idea Evaluation: Evaluate each idea based on feasibility, market potential, user impact, and alignment with strategic goals.
  5. Idea Selection: Identify the most promising ideas and prioritize them based on their potential impact and feasibility.

Design sprints can condense the ideation process and engage end users in it. Mendix expert services often use them for the creation of the first app, as the Mendix technology lends itself very well to creating quick prototypes/MVPs and collecting key user feedback ahead of building the concrete solution.

As your practice grows, you may consider formalizing an innovation process or running hackathons to maximize your innovation and gather ideas from across your organization.
