An Update about the Mendix 10 LTS Version

To provide both stability and innovation, Mendix releases monthly and offers Mid Term Supported (MTS) and Long Term Supported (LTS) releases. This ensures that our customers can always use the latest improvements, but also can stabilize on a certain version and only receive bugfixes and (security) patches. Because customer satisfaction is a priority of ours, here are some important changes to our previous release schedule that customers will want to note.

The change

LTS version will be version .24 instead of .21

The currently planned latest version of a major is the .21 version. This will be changed to the .24 version, while keeping the cadence of every two years a new major release in June. The LTS version for Mendix 10 was originally planned to be 10.21, a mere three months after the last MTS version. However, this approach has led to some confusion and questions among customers, as a two-year cycle is linked with 24 months and thus 24 versions – an approach we had previously taken with Mendix 9.

The last three versions of the release will focus on stability and performance

While Mendix is an innovative product, it is used for mission critical and core systems for which stability and predictability is very important. Therefore, the goal for the .22, .23, and .24 is all-around stability while providing the best experience. This means in practice that these versions will be more like patch versions.

However, if possible, and with careful consideration, we will add “small” developer experience improvements (like proposed the idea forum) that make the life of our developers better and more productive but that pose no risk on quality and performance.

The new schedule

Here you can find the difference between the old and release new schedule:

Date Old release schedule New release schedule
March 2023 9.24 LTS 9.24 LTS
April 2023 10 Beta 1 10 Beta 1
May 2023 10 Beta 2 10 Beta 2
June 2023 10.0 GA 10.0 GA
December 2023 10.6 MTS 10.6 MTS
June 2024 10.12 MTS 10.12 MTS
December 2024 10.18 MTS 10.18 MTS
March 2025 10.21 LTS 10.21
April 2025 11 Beta 1 10.22 and 11 Beta 1
May 2025 11 Beta 2 10.23 and 11 Beta 2
June 2025 11.0 GA 10.24 LTS and 11.0 GA

The rationale behind the change

Simplicity and predictability

We like to keep our release schedule simple and predictable for our customers. We believe this new cadence will provide that better than the previous one.

Stability and performance are crucial

As discussed above, stability and performance are crucial to our (enterprise) customers. By having three versions focusing on stability, we believe our customers and users will benefit the most from this.

Support for MTS versions

Our MTS versions remain supported up to three months after the release of the LTS version. For Mendix 10 MTS versions, support will respectively be dropped on the 1st of October, 2025.

What does this mean for me?

Migrating to the LTS will be later than might be planned. However, as the goals for .22, and .23 are around stability, migrating to these versions and then updating to .24 could be a viable alternative.

More stability in the LTS as the .22, .23 and .24 will only get fixes and small (but valuable) improvements.

A simpler and easier plan to keep in mind: Every six months an LTS or MTS version is released.
