Execute Your Development Needs with a Magic Quadrant™ Low-Code Leader
The 2024 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms features two fascinating statistics that capture the current state of low-code:
- “By 2028, 60% of software development organizations will use enterprise LCAPs as their main internal developer platform, up from 10% in 2024.”
- “By 2029, enterprise LCAPs will be used for mission-critical application development in 80% of businesses globally, up from 15% in 2024.”
That makes it critical to pick platforms with a track record of success and helping enterprises achieve their goals. It’s just one reason we at Mendix are incredibly appreciative to be named a Leader for the eighth consecutive year, including our second year in a row positioned highest for Ability to Execute. It’s because of recognition like this that we are proud of our platform and track record to enable better software faster than anyone else.
The latest technology curve
In the report, Gartner analysts point out that the “continued growth of enterprise LCAP is being driven by:
- Mainstream enterprise adoption
- AI-augmented development
- Composable business”
We feel Mendix helps pace the market in all these areas. Let’s take a look.
Mainstream enterprise adoption
We believe that integrating throughout the enterprise is vital to how Mendix provides value. That’s where the idea of the Mendix Digital Execution Practice stemmed from.
By combining the 5 Ps (Portfolio, People, Process, Platform, and Promotion) and guiding them through a process of Start, Structure, and Scale, enterprises can maximize their resources and their ROI.
And that’s not just talk. Consider the story of Schaeffler. In their early days with Mendix, Schaeffler:
- established a low-code center of excellence
- defined good initial use cases
- structured the platform around their technical requirements
- promoted internally.
These steps enabled Schaeffler to succeed quickly and scale across the organization.
AI-augmented development
The recent impact that AI and GenAI have had on development, including low-code, is enormous. The future ramifications figure to be just as huge. Gartner predicts that, by 2028, the use of generative AI will reduce the cost of modernizing legacy application by 30% from 2023 levels1. That’s one of many reasons we’re so excited to have Mendix embrace the use of AI across the entire software development lifecycle.
Mendix AI Assistance (Maia) is our AI-assisted development (AIAD) tool. Maia includes tools to, among other things:
- improve quality, performance, and security
- assist with modeling and creation of app logic
- suggest applicable microflows.
Further, Maia brings generative AI to automate specific tasks and generate certain components, such as a domain model. Maia helps by taking up some of the more burdensome parts of building an application. That means your experts can focus on what matters: adding value. We continue to grow and evolve Maia’s capabilities with new releases.
Further, Mendix offers connectors to ChatGPT, AWS Bedrock, and other leading services. These make it possible to bring these tools into your application with minimal fuss.
Composable business
The Gartner report says that “modern enterprise application delivery requires up-to-date approaches and disciplines.”
Mendix has lived by the idea of composability for years. This includes things like reusable components and an open and extensible platform. But, we believe that composability means more. It also means delivering better software faster while minimizing risk.
Maintaining control while fostering innovation is core to what we do. Having visibility and insight across the application and portfolio cycles is essential. Mendix is designed to make governance a feature of the development process, instead of a barrier.
Execution at scale across the enterprise
In the full report, Gartner notes that “software engineering teams are steadily transitioning from traditional application stacks to enterprise low-code application platforms to develop and maintain mission-critical applications.”
Further, a recent Mendix survey showing 82% of respondents saying that the C-suite is leading the adoption of low-code technology to drive digital transformation and improve operational efficiency.
It’s no longer enough for your low-code platform to be able to handle a problem here or there. The true value in low-code is solving across the enterprise—and being able to do so repeatedly.
BAE Systems has used Mendix to deliver more than 40 applications. Vivix developed 17 apps in Mendix in a year, saving 6,000 hours of manual work. ABN AMRO has integrated Mendix into the organization with 150 Mendix applications and a roadmap for more.
These aren’t isolated stories. Mendix excels by helping enterprises identify and execute not just one use case but all the ones after that. Most especially, though? Those use cases that are strategic or mission-critical in nature.
Change, evolve, adapt
“The speed of change in the Enterprise took a sizable leap in the past year as Generative AI dominated IT agendas,” Raymond Kok, Mendix CEO remarked. “The enterprise low code platform market was no different. With continued integrations of AI and GenAI tools into the platform, Mendix continues to be at the forefront of getting innovative tools into the hands of our customers.”
We firmly believe that low-code is the key to execution and efficiency throughout the SDLC. That belief shapes Mendix, our people, and our platform. We feel that being named a Leader by Gartner acknowledges that work, as do the amazing results we see from customers every day. We can’t wait to continue working with enterprises worldwide to forge the future of software development.
