Mitigate Operational Risk

Governance is about optimizing value with an acceptable risk depending on your risk tolerance. Operational risk is about making sure the app remains available to the end users and is resilient to outages.

Are all my production apps up and running? Are there any apps running out of their allocated resources?

When your application is operational, it is important to keep track of its running status and health. The DevOps teams can see Alerts on the running status and health of the app in the Mendix Portal or receive them by mail or notification.

For the Mendix admin that centrally monitors the application landscape, the Application Health Dashboard in the Control Center gives an overview of the alert status of your public cloud production environments. You can see immediately which apps are having operational issues. The dashboard shows running status but also other alerts, for example, which apps are running out of database space or need more memory.

When required you can jump to the Mendix Portal of the affected app to take action or reach out to the responsible team to react.

What is the status of the company activities on the Mendix platform?

Managing and monitoring the app portfolio and member access are the core governance activities on the Mendix Platform. In the Control Center, Mendix Admins can view the app portfolio and team member activity.

The Control Center provides a central overview of company activities. This gives insights to help you to be in control and remain aware of everything happening within the Mendix landscape of your company.

The Dashboard page shows how your app portfolio is progressing: number of apps created, apps with development, active apps, the number of Mendix cloud licensed apps, and the Mendix versions used in the app landscape.

It also shows if the development community in your company is thriving: how many new signups have occurred over time, the ratio of internal vs external platform users, and the Mendix certification level of your platform users to make sure your developers are increasing their knowledge and skills.

Are all my production apps up-to-date and secure and who is responsible for that?

Keeping your application landscape up-to-date is one of the ways you make sure your applications remain secure and can profit from the latest Mendix features.

In the Apps overview in Control Center, you can see and manage all applications in your landscape.

You can see where apps are deployed, if they are licensed, which Mendix version they are on, and who’s responsible for them.

You can also manage the people responsible and add or remove team members, if the teams don’t do that themselves.

Which apps can be archived to reduce footprint and potential exposure?

To keep your landscape secure and lean, you can regularly clean up the apps that have become obsolete.

In the apps page of Control Center, you can filter out free apps that have not had activity for a specified amount of time and bulk deactivate those. They will be archived so the project can still be restored, if required. We plan to automate this in the near future.
